“I Want To Sing” Songbook and CD (£15)

12 original contemporary songs that have been sung and enjoyed by 100s of children over the past few years during our work in schools as Musiko Musika.

The songs were inspired by our music making with pupils and teachers that we have met and worked with in diverse communities and reflect the South American influences that are part of Musiko Musika’s work.

It is our belief that music does not need to be complicated or difficult to be musically satisfying to perform and listen to. Songs can provide us with ideas and material for learning and developing many other skills in music and in life and you will find alongside the songs and their lyrics suggestions that can be used to help with rhythm, singing and much more besides.

This collection of songs is a resource that we have endeavoured to make relevant and accessible to those who have enthusiasm, but no particular skills, as well as experienced music teachers. With that in mind we have included accompaniment only versions of the songs on the CD as well as full versions so that they can be performed with or without a live pianist/ guitarist.

Children are enthused and inspired by encountering different instruments and sounds and we have made full use of a range of instruments from Europe, Africa and South America to create a CD that we hope will lead you and your children to say “I want to sing”.
